Senior Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, tax compliance, and complex financial workflows for our import and manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Transaction Management

Oversee accurate daily recording of transactions in Peachtree/Sage 50, QuickBooks, or ERP.
Perform bank, cash, customer, and supplier reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Review monthly payroll, including salaries, allowances, overtime, and statutory deductions.
Monitor petty cash and ensure all expenses have valid supporting documents.

2. Import Accounting & Forex

Calculate and allocate landed costs, including freight, insurance, bank charges, customs duties, and inland transport.
Manage accounting for L/C, CAD, and advance payments, including foreign exchange gains/losses.
Track and reconcile Goods-in-Transit (GIT) from port arrival through customs clearance to warehouse receipt.
Review customs declarations, duty assessments, and clearance documentation.

3. Tax & Statutory Compliance

Prepare and submit monthly VAT, Withholding Tax, Employment Income Tax, Pension, and other statutory declarations through the MoR e-tax system.
Prepare annual business income/profit tax calculations and returns.
Monitor updates from the Ministry of Revenues, NBE, and Customs Commission and ensure compliance.

4. Month-End, Inventory & Manufacturing

Prepare month-end and year-end accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and other adjusting entries.
Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation in line with applicable standards.
Oversee inventory counts, raw material costing, WIP, finished goods, and landed inventory.

5. Reporting, Audit & Advisory

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/IFRS for SMEs.
Coordinate external audits and provide trial balances, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Provide management with variance analysis, cash-flow forecasts, profitability analysis, and cost-control recommendations.

Requirements & Qualifications

BA/MA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in import and manufacturing.
Under 35 years old.
Strong knowledge of landed costing, L/C, CAD, GIT, forex, and customs procedures.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong knowledge of Peachtree/Sage 50, QuickBooks, or ERP systems.
Practical experience with Ethiopian tax laws and MoR e-tax submissions.
Strong financial analysis, reporting, and management advisory skills.
Practical experience with IFRS or IFRS for SMEs.
