Senior Frontend Engineer Next.js , React Native, Expo

We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to build, own, and elevate the user-facing surfaces of our platform, Axova — an all-in-one Ethiopian unified commerce platform bringing POS, marketplace, delivery, payments, and AI together for merchants.

You'll build mobile apps with React Native and Expo (Expo Go) and web applications with React/Next.js, working in a TypeScript monorepo, shipping features end-to-end with backend engineers, and caring deeply about how the product feels in the hands of real merchants, drivers, and shoppers.

Because Axova is a commerce platform at its core, you should genuinely understand how e-commerce systems work — catalogs, carts, checkout flows, order tracking, and storefront UX. Experience with platforms like Shopify is a strong head start.

Key Responsibilities

- Build and maintain mobile app features in React Native (Expo) across our merchant, POS, marketplace, and driver apps

- Build web apps and dashboards in React/Next.js with TypeScript and Tailwind CSS

- Build commerce-focused UI: catalogs, carts, checkout, order tracking, merchant dashboards

- Consume backend APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC-web); manage state, caching, and data fetching cleanly

- Implement offline-first patterns: local storage, sync queues, retries, graceful degradation

- Maintain internationalization across multiple locales, including RTL support

- Integrate native capabilities: maps, camera, push notifications, printing, payment flows

- Design UI/UX yourself when needed — take a feature from idea to polished interface without waiting on a designer

- Move fast without sacrificing quality — use AI tools and modern tooling to ship quickly and to a high standard of polish

- Handle loading, empty, and error states thoughtfully — no dead ends, no silent failures

- Follow clean Git/GitHub workflows (feature branches, PRs, code review, CI) and write tested, well-documented code

- Optimize performance: startup time, list rendering, bundle size, memory usage

Required Skills & Experience

- 4+ years of frontend experience with multiple production apps or web products shipped

- Expert-level React and TypeScript

- Deep production experience with React Native and Expo (Expo Go)

- Experience with Next.js and Tailwind CSS

- Familiarity with e-commerce systems (Shopify, WooCommerce, or custom storefronts) — you understand catalogs, carts, checkout, and order flows

- Strong UI/UX design skills — able to design clean, modern interfaces yourself (layout, spacing, color, typography, flows), not just implement mockups

- Fast, high-output developer — uses AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) daily to ship quickly with near-perfect polish

- Solid state management and data-fetching patterns (React Query/TanStack Query, Zustand, Redux, or similar)

- Mobile app lifecycle: navigation (React Navigation/Expo Router), deep linking, permissions, iOS/Android differences

- Strong Git/GitHub proficiency (branches, PRs, code review, GitHub Actions/CI)

- Sharp eye for UI polish and solid web fundamentals (semantic HTML, CSS, responsive layout)

- Must have your own high-end laptop that runs emulators, simulators, and build tooling smoothly (16GB+ RAM, SSD, recent CPU — Apple Silicon or equivalent)

Nice to Have

- Shopify storefront/theme/app development

- App Store & Google Play releases (EAS Build/Submit, TestFlight)

- i18n libraries (i18next) and RTL layouts; offline-capable apps (AsyncStorage, background sync)

- Maps (Google Maps/Mapbox), camera/OCR, or receipt printing integrations

- Accessibility (a11y) best practices; monorepo experience (Turborepo, Nx)

- Testing (Jest, React Native Testing Library, Playwright); profiling (Flipper, React DevTools, Lighthouse)

- Figma proficiency for your own mockups and prototypes
