Job Details: Senior Accountant

Position Title: Senior Accountant and Junior Accountant (Tax & Compliance / General Ledger)
Department: Finance & Operations
Reports To: Finance Manager / Finance Director
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position Summary

Maintaining complete financial control, managing regulatory tax filings, organizing company payment systems, and representing the enterprise directly with government bureaus and tax authorities.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

1. Tax Declarations & Statutory Compliance

Statutory Filing: Calculate, prepare, and execute monthly tax declarations including:
- VAT (Value Added Tax)
- Withholding Tax (WHT) and Cost Sharing
- Employee Payroll Income Tax & Pension Contributions (Private / Public Organization Pension Scheme)
- Corporate Profit Tax / Capital Transfer Taxes
e-Tax Systems: Manage monthly filings using ERCA / e-Tax digital portals for e-filing and e-payments within strict statutory deadlines.
Sales & Purchase Reporting: Submit accurate monthly sales/purchase reports and custom clearance reports as mandated by regulatory guidelines.

2. Regulatory & Government Liaison (Ministry of Revenue)

Bureau Engagement: Act as the primary technical point of contact and follow up regularly with the Ministry of Revenue (MoR), Large Taxpayers Office (LTO), and local sub-city tax branch offices.
Audit Support: Lead preparation for external, government, and MoR tax audits; compile requested audit trails, handle inquiries, and resolve tax discrepancies.
Registration & Renewal: Manage Tax Identification Number (TIN) maintenance, business license tax clearances, POS/cash-register machine registrations, and official document printing permits.

3. Payment Organization & Financial Documentation

Payment Voucher Verification: Verify Payment Requests (PR), Purchase Orders (PO), Goods Receiving Notes (GRN), and Supplier Invoices (3-way matching) before executing disbursements.
Payment Execution: Oversee vendor payments, operational payroll payouts, driver/logistics disbursements, and petty cash operations.
Archiving & Documentation: Establish and control the finance archive, ensuring 100% proper attachment of tax receipts (withholding receipts, VAT attachments, bank slips, and payment vouchers).
General Ledger & Reconciliation: Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations (bank statements, vendor accounts, receivable aging, and tax sub-ledgers).

Preferred Qualifications & Requirements

Education: BA Degree or MA/MBA in Accounting and Finance or related discipline from a recognized university.
Work Experience:
- Minimum From 0- 4 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 2+ years in a senior role handling statutory tax filings and compliance.
Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of Ethiopian Tax Laws, Proclamations, Regulations, and IFRS reporting standards.
- Direct hands-on experience using Ministry of Revenue online platforms (e-Tax / SIGTAS).
