Job Title: Senior Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to manage the supermarket’s daily financial operations, ensuring accurate accounting, effective cash and inventory controls, timely financial reporting, and compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. The role will also support management decision-making through financial analysis and supervise junior accounting staff and cashiers.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and bank reconciliations.
Reconcile POS sales, daily cash collections, bank deposits, credit card settlements, and other payment transactions.
Monitor and reconcile physical inventory, stock movements, waste/spoilage, stock turnover, and inventory variances.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier invoices, purchase orders, deliveries, and outstanding balances.
Calculate and process VAT, withholding tax, payroll taxes, and other statutory obligations in compliance with local regulations.
Coordinate payroll processing, review timesheets, and ensure proper statutory deductions.
Manage bank account operations, cash flow monitoring, and fund transfers.
Support month-end/year-end closing and internal and external audit activities.
Investigate accounting, cash, and inventory discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain proper financial documentation, filing systems, and confidentiality of financial information.
Supervise, train, and review the work of junior accountants, bookkeepers, and cashiers.
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support management decision-making.
Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.

Academic Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, or a related field.
Professional certification such as ACCA/CPA is an advantage.

Experience

Minimum 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in supermarket, retail, wholesale, FMCG, or similar businesses

Skills and Competencies

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, inventory, cash management, POS reconciliation, AP/AR, and taxation.
Proficiency in accounting software like Peachtree, ERP systems and MS Office, particularly Excel.
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
