About Simret

Simret is a platform being developed to make wedding planning in Ethiopia easier by connecting clients with trusted wedding vendors, venues, and services in one place.

We are looking for a Field Research & Data Collection Assistant to help us build and maintain Simret’s vendor database.

Role Overview

This is primarily a remote position. The role involves researching, contacting, and verifying wedding-related businesses and collecting accurate information about their services, pricing, locations, and booking processes. Occasional in-person visits within Addis Ababa may be required when necessary.

Responsibilities

Research and identify wedding vendors and venues in Addis Ababa
Contact businesses by phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, or in person
Collect and accurately record vendor information
Gather pricing, packages, services, availability, and booking requirements
Verify business locations and contact information
Visit selected vendors or venues when necessary
Take photos/videos when appropriate and permitted
Find new vendors that are not already in the database
Keep the database organized and up to date
Record when information was last verified
Provide weekly updates on completed research and findings
Flag incomplete, outdated, or inconsistent information

Requirements

Based in Addis Ababa
Fluent in English and Amharic
Basic Excel skills and comfortable working with spreadsheets
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable making phone calls and speaking with business owners
Strong attention to detail
Organized, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Comfortable using Instagram, WhatsApp, Google Maps, and other online platforms
Able to occasionally travel within Addis Ababa for vendor/venue research
Previous experience in research, data collection, customer service, events, or a similar role is a plus

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently.

Accuracy and professionalism are extremely important because the information collected will be used to build Simret’s platform.

Initial Work Structure

This will begin as a part-time contract position, with the possibility of continuing long-term as Simret develops.

The first phase will focus on building and verifying Simret’s vendor database. Training and clear data-collection guidelines will be provided.
