About the Role

We're looking for a creative, self-driven Social Media & Content Manager to own Merkato's social presence from the ground up. You'll create short-form video content, design posts, manage our social accounts, and engage with our community across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands both content creation and how to build genuine community engagement online.

What You'll Do

Edit short-form videos (CapCut) featuring listings, features, and community-focused content — no on-camera filming required, this is b-roll/photo + text overlay style content
Design static posts and graphics using Canva
Write captions and post copy in both Amharic and English
Schedule and publish content across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram
Respond to comments and DMs, and engage authentically in relevant Facebook groups
Help plan a weekly content calendar (listing features, community tips, brand content)
Track what's performing and share simple weekly updates

What We're Looking For

Must-have:

Fluent in Amharic and English (written and spoken)
Experience editing short-form video in CapCut or a similar tool
Comfortable working independently with flexible/async hours
Familiarity with Facebook groups and how community engagement works there
Basic graphic design skills (Canva)
Prior experience managing social media for a business, brand, or creator
Strong copywriting/hook-writing instincts

Nice-to-have:

Active presence in or familiarity with diaspora online communities (Telegram, YouTube, Facebook groups)
