Job Details: Construction Foreman

Position Title: General Construction Foreman
Department: Site Operations & Construction
Reports To: Site Engineer / Project Manager
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Site-based)

Position Summary

The Construction Foreman acts as the direct supervisor on the ground, leading daily labor crews, trade specialists, and heavy equipment operators. This role translates engineering blueprints into physical work, ensuring daily tasks are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule while maintaining strict material and labor control. Civil engineers are welcome to apply.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

1. On-Site Workforce & Trade Supervision

Daily Crew Assignment: Organize, assign, and direct daily tasks for skilled tradespeople (masons, carpenters, rebar fitters, plumbers) and daily laborers.
Workmanship Quality: Direct on-site execution to ensure formwork, rebar placement, concrete pouring, blockwork, and finishing conform to engineering instructions.
Productivity Management: Monitor labor performance on site, ensure work runs continuously without idle time, and resolve practical trade issues immediately.

2. Material, Equipment & Daily Logistics

Site Material Requests: Requisition necessary materials, tools, and consumables from the site store in advance to avoid work stoppages.
Wastage & Security Control: Oversee material handling on site to minimize concrete spillage, steel rebar scrap, and lumber waste; protect tools and site assets from damage or theft.
Equipment Care: Ensure proper operation, daily maintenance, and safe handling of site tools, mixers, vibrators, and heavy machinery.

3. Site Safety & Daily Reporting

HSE Enforcement: Lead daily morning toolbox talks, enforce PPE usage (helmets, safety boots, high-vis vests), and maintain a secure working environment.
Labor Attendance & Logs: Track daily attendance, log working hours for site labor, and submit regular headcounts to the site office for payroll processing.
Daily Progress Updates: Report daily completed quantities, material usage, and any site bottlenecks directly to the Site Engineer.

Other Preferred Qualifications & Requirements

Education: TVET / Diploma in Building Construction, Civil Works, Masonry, Carpentry, or equivalent practical certification.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of practical experience on building/civil construction sites, with at least 2–3 years as a site foreman or head master craftsman.
Technical Skills & Practical Knowledge:
- Ability to read basic architectural and structural construction drawings.
- Practical expertise in concrete works, formwork assembly, rebar schedules, and general building trades.
Soft Skills & Physical Attributes:
- Strong leadership and firm crowd-management skills to direct diverse labor crews.
- Good spoken Amharic (knowledge of local trade terminology and basic English is an advantage).
- High physical stamina and willingness to work outdoors on active construction sites for extended hours.
