ACCOUNTANT

Role Purpose

Manage daily accounting, maintain reliable financial controls and gradually develop into the company’s internal finance lead.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Female, preferably aged 27 or above; maturity and responsibility matter more than age.
3–5 years’ relevant experience. Two years may be considered if the candidate has independently managed accounts.
Manufacturing, food production, hospitality, retail or FMCG experience is strongly preferred.
Available for full-time, mainly on-site work.
Strong Amharic and good working English.
Verifiable references, integrity and reliability.

Required Skills

Strong proficiency in Peachtree/Sage 50.
Good Excel skills, including pivot tables, SUMIF/SUMIFS, lookups, reconciliations and costing.
Comfortable learning Odoo or another ERP/POS system.
Familiarity with IFRS or Ethiopian reporting requirements.
Practical experience with eTax, TASS and Ministry of Revenue procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Accounting and Cash Management

Post sales, purchases, expenses, receipts, payments, inventory movements and journals daily.
Reconcile POS sales with cash, cards, bank transfers and electronic payments.
Manage petty cash and ensure transactions are properly documented and approved.
Maintain customer and supplier ledgers and monitor receivables and payables.
Reconcile bank accounts and investigate differences promptly.
Prepare payment requests, payment schedules and short-term cash-flow forecasts.

Tax and Payroll

Prepare and submit VAT, withholding tax, employment income tax, pension and other declarations on time.
Reconcile tax returns with sales, purchases and the general ledger.
Maintain withholding certificates and a compliance calendar.
Liaise with tax offices and prepare records for audits and inspections.
Prepare monthly payroll, including attendance, overtime, leave, deductions, advances, taxes and pension.
Reconcile payroll with bank payments and accounting records.

Manufacturing, Inventory and Costing

Collect and verify daily production data.
Record materials issued, quantities produced, finished-goods transfers, waste, breakage, rejected batches, rework and samples.
Maintain records for ingredients, packaging, work in progress and finished goods.
Reconcile physical stock with production records, POS sales and accounting balances.
Participate in stock counts and investigate variances.
Calculate product costs, including ingredients, packaging, labour, overhead, landed costs and expected waste.
Maintain bills of materials and standard recipes with production.
Compare standard and actual costs and calculate gross profit by product, category and sales channel.
Ensure samples, staff consumption, free products and damaged goods are authorised and recorded.

Imports and Assets

Calculate landed costs for imported ingredients, packaging and machinery.
Record customs duty, freight, insurance and related charges.
Maintain the fixed-asset register and record depreciation.
Account for lease-financed machinery and other long-term obligations.

Monthly Reporting

Prepare profit-and-loss, balance-sheet and cash-flow reports; bank reconciliations; receivables and payables ageing; tax summaries; inventory, production-cost and wastage reports; budget comparisons; gross-margin analysis; and explanations of unusual movements or risks.

The accountant must understand and explain the figures, not merely generate reports, and flag problems early.

Establish approval procedures and maintain properly filed documents.
Identify duplicate payments, missing documents and unusual transactions.
Control advances, staff loans and unsettled claims.
Document procedures and escalate irregularities promptly.
Protect confidential company information.
Demonstrate honesty, sound judgement, organisation and attention to detail.
Follow up firmly but respectfully and question unclear transactions.
Remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly and help build systems within a growing business.
