Job Purpose:

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial transactions, monitoring budgets, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and supporting financial reporting. The role contributes to effective financial management by ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded, controlled, and reported in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Transaction Processing and Reporting

• Manage general ledger transactions and ensure proper recording and coding according to the chart of accounts.

• Record and monitor transactions including cash in office and bank, bank credit and debit advice, cash disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenues, and other financial activities.

• Review financial records and ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions.

• Prepare and submit monthly tax declarations and ensure timely submission in the online declaration format to ERCA before the Ethiopian calendar deadline of the 25th.

• Act as a checker for monthly payroll and verify payment transactions within the section.

• Follow up on accounts payable and calculate agents’ commission payments on a monthly basis and transfer them to the Accountant responsible for check preparation.

• Ensure timely payment of monthly obligations such as telephone bills, utilities, office rent, and other operational payables.

• Assist accountants in conducting the annual fixed asset count.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Budget Monitoring:

• Monitor budget performance and track financial expenditures against approved budgets.

• Prepare budget variance reports and highlight significant differences.

• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial planning activities.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

• Implement and monitor internal financial control systems.

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Support the maintenance of effective financial control procedures.

• Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities.

Administrative and Operational Support:

• Maintain proper documentation and records for financial transactions.

• Coordinate with relevant departments regarding financial processes and documentation.

• Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor, Finance Manager, Finance and Administration Director, or Executive Team.

Required Competencies and Professional Skills:

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting

• Financial transaction management and reconciliation skills

• Experience working with a double-entry accounting system

• Budget monitoring and financial analysis skills

• Knowledge of tax declaration and regulatory compliance

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software

• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Job Requirements:

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

• Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.

• Experience in financial reporting, tax declaration, and financial transaction management is preferred.
