Key Responsibilities

Daily External Bookkeeping & Voucher Management

Collect, verify, sort and file all original external supporting documents (purchase invoices, sales invoices, customs documents, bank slips, expense receipts, payroll vouchers, import/export clearance papers).
Record all local legal transactions into accounting software accurately on a timely basis; post AP, AR, cash, bank, inventory, fixed asset journal entries for external accounts.
Check completeness, validity and tax deductibility of all invoices; match PO, delivery note and supplier invoice before payment voucher preparation.

Bank & Account Reconciliation

Complete monthly bank statement reconciliation, investigate and clear unreconciled items promptly; maintain cash book and bank ledger up to date.
Reconcile supplier/customer aged trial balances monthly, follow up outstanding balances and resolve billing discrepancies with local vendors & clients.
Assist fixed asset monthly depreciation posting, organize quarterly physical stocktaking supporting documents for external reporting.

Ethiopian Tax Compliance Support (Core External Account Duty)

Assist monthly tax declaration preparation: VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), PAYE employee income tax, POESSA social security contributions as per Ministry of Revenue rules.
Calculate taxable income, taxable purchases/sales, prepare tax payment slips, track tax payment deadlines to avoid late penalties.
Collate all tax filing records, tax receipts and tax books; respond to routine inquiries from Ethiopian Revenue Authority on behalf of finance team.
Assist annual corporate income tax reconciliation, prepare supporting schedules for year-end tax return.

Payroll Statutory Compliance

Sort payroll data, verify PAYE tax and POESSA deduction calculations; archive payslips, social security remittance documents monthly.
Support monthly remittance of staff income tax and social security to local authorities within statutory deadlines.

Month-End & Year-End External Closing Support

Assist finance supervisor with month-end accrual, prepayment provision, closing entries and trial balance preparation for external financial statements.
Prepare schedules for external auditor: bank confirmation, inventory list, fixed asset register, payable/receivable aging, tax summary statements.
Coordinate document provision during annual external audit, follow up audit adjustment entries and archive full audit files.

External Stakeholder Liaison & Document Archiving

Communicate with local banks, tax officers, customs brokers, audit firms and business registration offices for routine finance matters.
Establish standardized physical & digital archive system for all external accounting vouchers, ledgers, tax files, audit reports, legal financial documents (retain per Ethiopia document retention regulation).
Submit regular external account progress, tax status and financial data reports to Finance Supervisor & China HQ Finance team.

Other ad-hoc finance tasks assigned by supervisor.
