Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

Maintain accurate daily financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
Process invoices, payments, and receipts accurately and on time
Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing
Track and manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions

Reconciliation & Verification

Perform daily reconciliations of cash, cheque, credit card, and mobile payments (e.g., telebirr, CBE)
Reconcile bank statements and verify transactions for accuracy and completeness
Track intercompany transactions and perform monthly reconciliations where applicable
Assist in resolving discrepancies in accounts and escalate unresolved issues to senior accountants

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Prepare weekly cash flow updates and monthly financial reports for management review
Assist in budget monitoring, variance analysis, and reporting on ongoing projects
Provide analysis of accounts as requested to support senior finance staff

Tax Compliance & Regulatory Support

Assist in preparing VAT returns, income tax filings, and other statutory reports
Ensure financial transactions are documented in line with Ethiopian tax regulations and accounting standards
Support senior accountants during audits and regulatory inspections

Systems & Controls

Operate accounting software (e.g., Peachtree, QuickBooks) for recording and reporting transactions
Maintain and update Excel spreadsheets for reconciliations, reporting, and cash tracking
Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls, standard operating procedures, and financial policies

Collaboration & Support

Work closely with other departments to verify transactions and resolve queries
Support senior accountants in ad-hoc financial assignments and projects
Mentor and guide less experienced staff where appropriate

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 3 years of accounting experience in a multi-unit operation or structured finance environment
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Solid understanding of IFRS, financial statements, and Ethiopian accounting and tax regulations
