Backend Engineer (Remote | Contractual)

Job Summary

We are hiring an experienced backend engineer to help build a secure, multitenant business platform deeply integrated with Ethiopia's Ministry of Revenue.

Job Description

The platform covers a wide range of business-critical functions including e-invoicing, HR management, sales, POS, and accounting with compliance AI assistance. The engineer will be responsible for designing and building the backend from the ground up, ensuring it meets strict government integration requirements, handles multiple tenants securely, and operates at the highest level of performance and security. This is a hands-on role that requires deep technical expertise, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to deliver under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs
Architect and maintain a highly secure, multitenant database layer with high reliability
Integrate with the Ministry of Revenue API within strict performance thresholds
Develop core modules, including invoicing, HR, POS, sales, and accounting
Enforce security best practices across authentication, authorization, and data handling
Optimize system performance and ensure API response times meet SLA requirements
Maintain, monitor, and continuously improve the platform post-deployment

Requirements

Extensive, proven experience in Go (Golang) is strictly required — candidates must demonstrate deep, hands-on production-level Go development with a strong command of concurrency, error handling, security, and Go-specific design patterns
Proven and deep expertise in relational database design, management, and performance tuning, where SQL proficiency is strictly required
Solid experience building multitenant SaaS architectures
Experience in REST API design and third-party system integrations
Proven experience in implementing maximum security for systems
Must be able to deliver quality work under very short timelines without compromising on standards

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in web and mobile backend development using Go at production scale
Strong background in database architecture, optimization, and data integrity enforcement
Solid understanding of application security, including secure coding practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management
Strong experience integrating with government APIs, regulatory, or other systems
Background in fintech, ERP, or accounting software development
